Rangnick confirms Fred is back for Man United vs Brighton

Man United could welcome Fred back for their game vs Brighton tomorrow.

Three games, three draws, one penalty shootout defeat, four points dropped. It’s fair to say the last week has been pretty dire for Manchester United supporters all over the globe.

It’s a weird situation as some of our football has actually been pretty good, but this is a results business and the games are now coming thick and fast for Ralf Rangnick and his squad.

Next up, Brighton. Although it’s at Old Trafford, the Seagulls will provide a stern test for the Red Devils here – particularly if we’re not at our best.

Ahead of the game, we have been given a team news boost. Key man Fred is back in the mix for this one against Brighton, following his bout of Covid-19.

Check out what the gaffer had to say here:

“Fred will be available again,” Rangnick told the media, including ManUtd.com.

“He’ll also be part of the group for tomorrow. Edinson is still out, the same with Nema. The rest is, well, Alex [Telles] is back again in the squad and already was part of the group for the Southampton game and he will also be available.”

I’d argue United have missed his energy dearly. Now I know he’s not the most technically-gifted player, but that ability to cover every blade of grass, while doing the dirty work, cannot be understated.

The next question is just how fit is Fred? Coronavirus affects everyone differently and we don’t know how severely the Brazilian had it. If it was a mild case then I’d expect him to come straight back into the line-up. However, if there were any complications or the player wasn’t feeling too good, expect the club to nurse him back to full fitness.

With Paul Pogba now back in the mix, the minutes will be significantly harder to come by for the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay. In most games, it’ll be just the one of the ‘McFred’ combination starting – and I’m certainly intrigued to see which one Rangnick prefers.

Welcome back, Fred!
