Rangnick heaps praise on ‘really good’ Anthony Elanga

Anthony Elanga was brilliant again last night, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick delighted with what he saw from the Swede.

Manchester United put in probably their best half of football under Ralf Rangnick last night. The players suddenly looked hungry and confident again – scoring three brilliantly-worked goals to secure all three points.

To a man, every single player performed better. Perhaps something was said at half-time that jolted the lads into action. Perhaps it was just a slight tactical tweak that seemed to get the best out of everyone. Either way, it was excellent to watch us in full flight.

It was one man in particular who’d leave the manager impressed, though. Anthony Elanga – who scored the opening goal with a super header.

Rangnick would heap the praise on the United starlet, while admitting that before he signed, he watched videos of the young Swede on YouTube as he’d heard good things about what he can offer.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

‘I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up,’ Rangnick told BBC Sport.

‘l had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good.

‘He was almost on his way out on loan, I told him you will not go out on loan, you will say here. He has developed in training.’

Well, it’s definitely fair to say that the faith shown in Elanga is being repaid right now. He’s started our last two games and undoubtedly looked like United’s best attacker in both of them.

Perhaps it’s the youthful exuberance, perhaps it’s the directness in which he plays with. one thing I know for certain is that Elanga simply cannot be dropped on current form.

Our next game against West Ham United will present Elanga with a different test. He won’t get anywhere near as much space at Old Trafford as teams will sit back and look to hit us on the break. It’s then up to Elanga to adapt and adjust his game slightly.

As things stand, he’s the shining light in this team and long may that continue. I was also impressed with Elanga’s post-match interview. He speaks so well for such a young man. All credit to him for that.

Has Anthony Elanga done enough to keep his place in the team? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
