Raphael Varane a ‘big-time player’ according to Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial only has positive things to say about his new Manchester United teammate, Raphael Varane.

Manchester United have started their season off strongly, demolishing Leeds United 5-1 on the opening day.

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, this has to be just the start. This Red Devils team is more than capable of lining the trophy cabinet with silverware and it’s up to the Baby Faced Assassin to deliver the goods.

Jadon Sancho’s addition is a major one, while it can be argued Raphael Varane is even more important for this squad. The deal to acquire the Frenchman is finally over the line. Perhaps we’ll see him in action against Southampton this weekend.

Well, ahead of a potential debut, Man United star Anthony Martial has heaped the praise on his new teammate, who will ‘bring all his powers’ to the Reds.

Check out what our number nine had to say here:

“Varane is a big-time player,” Martial said to ManUtd.com.

“I don’t think he [Varane] will need too much time to adapt to his new environment, but I’m there for him for whatever little help or advice he may need.”

“He has all his experience, – he’s a player who has won a lot during the time of his career at Real Madrid and also in the French national team, so I am sure he will bring all his powers, as he really is a top player and I know things are going to go well for him here at United.”

Not many people will know Varane better than Martial, who have worked together at the international level on a few occasions. To receive such high praise must be a massive confidence-booster for Varane.

The 28-year-old defender has won the lot over in Spain, while looking like one of the best in the world in his position along the way. This is a definite upgrade in a real position of need for the Old Trafford club.

On paper, the fit between Varane and Harry Maguire looks perfect. Sure, these centre-half pairings can take time to learn each other’s games, but these are two experienced players. I’m sure they’ll get there.

If Varane does need help settling in, Martial and the other Frenchman inside that dressing room, Paul Pogba, will be more than accommodating I’m sure.

Now, the excitement about Varane will keep on building in the lead-up to our game this coming Sunday. Bring it on!
