Raphael Varane back training following injury

Raphael Varane is progressing nicely from injury, giving Man United a lift in defence.

Manchester United’s start to the season can only be described as shoddy. The football has been dire, even during the wins (Leeds United at home on opening day the only exception).

Something had to give. Now, a new manager is on the way in the hope that he can get a positive tune out of this talented squad.

Defensively, Ralf Rangnick may have his work cut out. We’ve shipped goals galore across all competitions this term, though some of that can be put down to Raphael Varane’s injury absence.

Well, United have been handed a massive injury boost with the key star back in training as he edges closer to a return.

Check out what the boss had to say on Raphael Varane’s return here:

“Yeah, Rapha’s rehab is going really well,” Carrick told the club website yesterday. “He’s out on the grass but it won’t be any time this week, by any stretch, it’ll be a little bit further than that, if not even longer.

“He’s on course [though], which is good.”

Varane has been ruled out of the games this week, but the good news is that he’s now not too far away. Perhaps we could see him back on the bench against Norwich City on December 11th?

Having the Frenchman available for the hectic winter schedule, when you have to rotate your squad, will be massive. He brings a calmness to a defence that generally flusters without him back there and his presence could be key to us going on a good run of form.

Timing is everything and hamstring injuries aren’t to be messed with. It’s vital that Varane isn’t rushed back to avoid further time out injured. When he is back, his minutes will also have to be managed pretty carefully.

Hopefully, we’re not without him for too much longer!
