Raphael Varane will leave Man United this summer, with the Frenchman confirming the news.
Manchester United are undergoing major change at the moment – both on and off the field. The Red Devils are looking to drastically reduce the wage bill, before re-investing those funds back into the playing squad.
Erik ten Hag’s job is far from secure, so hitting the reset button yet again is far from ideal. However, that’s the hand we’ve been dealt and there’s nothing you can do about it.
The dawning of a new era comes with big statements. Well, the first large decision has been made, with Raphael Varane leaving on a free transfer this summer.
Our French defender took to social media to share a heartfelt message to the Old Trafford faithful, confirming he will be departing upon expiry of his contract.

Varane was pure class. The Frenchman was easily United’s best defender when fit and available. Positioning, on-ball ability, general skill, defensive quality. The guy had it all.
Sadly, he just couldn’t play multiple games per week, which made it tough to put real trust in Varane. Availability is reliability and at this high level, Varane’s body just wouldn’t hold up.
It’s a tough decision to make, though letting Rapha leave is probably the correct one. He’s on massive wages that United simply cannot afford at this point in time. No doubt another club will give him the opportunity to shine, although it’ll be sad to see him pull on another shirt.
Best of luck wherever you end up, Rapha!
