Raphael Varane is stepping up his injury return, by doing some individual training.
Manchester United Football Club have absolutely been much-improved defensively this term. Credit has to go to Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff for that.
Not only has Lisandro Martinez helped steady the ship, the club are now starting to get more out of their full-backs and Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman is looking every bit like the world-class centre-back we saw at Real Madrid for years. Cool on the ball. Calm when defending. A general defensive presence.
Sadly, the World Cup-winning centre-half has missed the last couple of games with injury after picking up an issue in the Manchester derby.
Well, we’ve now been given an update on that front. Apparently, the United star is doing individual training away from the main group, as Varane looks to make his return from the treatment table.
Check out Simon Stone’s information on the Raphael Varane injury front:
To me, this feels like Varane will not partake against Omonia tomorrow, with United seemingly looking to get him back for the weekend match against Newcastle United. That’s obviously the more important match.
The Varane-Martinez partnership has absolutely been the best we’ve seen so far this term. Obviously, we’d like to see them two reunite at Old Trafford this weekend.
However, the last thing United should do is try to rush Rapha back. This is a player who dealt with multiple injuries last term. We do not want to see a repeat of that situation.
The problem that United have is they’re currently light at the back due to the Harry Maguire injury. Obviously, Phil Jones remains at the club but he has been completely frozen out – so I do not imagine we’ll see him anytime soon…
