Man United believe they’ll have the Raphael Varane deal done, in time for the Frenchman to feature vs Leeds United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would’ve probably hoped for more than two signings before the 2021/22 campaign kicks off, though the pair that have been added are truly brilliant players within their own right.
Jadon Sancho made his Manchester United training debut yesterday, with the Englishman set to play some part this coming weekend. Well, it looks as though Raphael Varane won’t be too far behind…
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are ‘expected’ to complete the signing of the French star in time for the player to be available vs Leeds United on Saturday.
Varane is currently self-isolating in a Chesire estate owned by United, nicknamed by Reds staff as the ‘covid towers’. It’s a building previously used by Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani, as they made their move to Old Trafford.
The Frenchman is expected to complete his move to the Red Devils on, or by Wednesday, with a deal having to be done by lunchtime on Friday in order for Varane to be available for selection.
At this stage, that looks likely to happen. However, whether or not Varane is fit enough to start is an entirely different proposition.
As of right now, I’d expect the back two to be Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. Purely because Varane will have no minutes of pre-season action under his belt, meaning it’ll take him at least a fortnight to get fully up to speed.
Varane will likely take his place amongst the substitutes bench and be ready to play if needed, though Solskjaer often takes the cautious approach – and that feels like the wise decision at this point in time.
