Raphael Varane has an offer from Man United: report

Raphael Varane apparently has an offer on the table from Manchester United.

Manchester United’s number one need going into the transfer window is a new centre-half. Let’s not kid ourselves, a deal for Jadon Sancho would be lovely but it’s our defensive woes that cost us a serious chance at a title.

Harry Maguire needs a partner and the name that pops up most often is that of Raphael Varane. We’ve covered the brewing saga pretty extensively already.

Now, ASWednesday print edition give us another update, with the translation coming from Sport Witness.

Apparently, the classy 28-year-old ‘has offers’ for a summer transfer from Man United and Paris Saint-Germain. As you’d imagine, Real Madrid’s number one aim is to resolve Varane’s future as quickly as possible.

Varane’s current deal expires in one year, so Madrid have a pretty big decision to make on his future. The way Varane sees it is this is his last chance at securing a big-money move, with a deal to either United or PSG likely to guarantee the player a massive payday.

At this stage, AS think it’s ‘impossible’ for Los Blancos to meet his demands for an extension, meaning they’ll either have to cash in now or lose him for free next summer. You’d imagine they’ll want some sort of money back for the Frenchman, so it’s pretty likely a deal happens during this transfer window.

In terms of fit, Varane would immediately become our number one centre-half as soon as he walks through the door. We need a commanding presence and someone who can organise a defence properly. This guy has big game experience and a winning mentality. What’s not to like about that?

Would signing Raphael Varane make Man United instant challengers again? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
