Raphael Varane is a Red Devil, agreement practically reached: report

Man United are closing in on their second major signing of the summer in the form of Raphael Varane.

After signing Jadon Sancho, Manchester United continue to show they mean business. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified signing a new centre-half as the next big priority, with Raphael Varane seemingly the man he wants.

Well, now, it looks for all the world like the Frenchman will be the next marquee addition to the brilliant collection of players at Old Trafford.

The story comes from Madridista Real on Twitter, who state that the 28-year-old is now a ‘Red Devil’. The agreement to sign the player is practically reached, or ‘closed’ as MR put it.

In a follow-up tweet from MR, it’s claimed that Varane is grateful for everything Real Madrid have done for him, however, the player just wanted a new challenge. He will, understandably, always have respect for the La Liga giants for everything they’ve done for him over the last ten years.

That said, Madrid’s loss is United’s gain. The Red Devils are getting a player who is amongst the best in the world in his position. What’s not to like about that?

Finally, we have someone who we can firmly put confidence in to partner Harry Maguire. We’ve seen how good the Englishman can be with a top-quality central defender alongside him and you’d like to think that Varane can bring the best out of the United skipper.

I guess now it’s just about waiting for the official agreement to be confirmed by either United or Madrid. Then, us fans can start to really get excited about this prospect.
