Raphael Varane is not available for Man United vs Fulham today through injury.
Manchester United’s team news for the FA Cup home game vs Fulham is now in, with there being one notable absentee in the form of Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman, who has partnered Lisandro Martinez in all of United’s bigger matches, wasn’t even on the bench. No problems were reported in the build-up to the match, leaving us all somewhat surprised.
Obviously, going into any game without the French centre-back is far from ideal, particularly when the defensive-midfield is also down another born winner in the form of Casemiro.
The key star is missing due to injury, according to Rob Dawson. Thankfully, the problem isn’t thought to be serious and he should be back after the international break.
Varane’s debut season at United was heavily disrupted by injury and whenever he goes down now, it does leave us all pretty concerned.
At this point, we’re not even sure what area has been affected, though Dawson does seem confident that the problem is only minor. Perhaps he’s out as a precaution, rather than this issue being something serious.
Another point worth noting is that Varane has now retired from international duty, meaning he’ll likely spend the next fortnight ensuring he’s fit for United upon the resumption of domestic football. Thankfully, Rapha is no longer jetting off to all corners of the globe to play for Les Bleus.
For now, full focus is on Fulham. This is a tough game with a full squad available, though it becomes even harder without some key faces like Varane. Hopefully, Maguire can do a decent enough hob as a stand-in and book our place in the final four of the FA Cup.
