Raphael Varane to begin his Man United medical today: report

Raphael Varane is set to undergo the first part of his Man United medical today.

Earlier this week, we covered a claim from the Manchester Evening News, who stated that United hoped to complete a deal for Raphael Varane in time for him to be available against Leeds United. They’d earmarked Wednesday as a possible date of completion.

Well, we’re now on Tuesday and The Telegraph’s James Ducker has another positive update for us in that regard. Apparently, the 28-year-old is to begin his Manchester United medical today.

Again, it’s reiterated that the Reds hope to ‘formally complete’ the transfer by Wednesday, meaning Varane could officially be a United player as early as tomorrow!

It’s stated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to have Varane available as a substitute for the game against Leeds United, which is the early kick-off on Saturday.

Obviously, it has been less than ideal due to Coronavirus protocols. Varane had to self isolate for the best part of a week, which has completely delayed the Frenchman’s deal being finalised – and also meaning he’s got less time to train with his new teammates.

Personally, I’d hope that Varane isn’t thrown into the fire. Leeds United are a good side and the last thing he’d need is to be placed in an intense situation like that without being fully prepared.

That said, I don’t think it’ll be too long before Varane is fully up to speed, as he looks to battle Victor Lindelof for that starting job alongside Harry Maguire.

In other news, Ducker writes that United have no intention of selling Anthony Martial this summer.
