Marcus Rashford is not likely to be involved for England tonight, when they take on San Marino.
Manchester United’s injury problems started to pile up before the international break. However, perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer views this as a period where his players can rest up and get back to full fitness.
Well, one player who seemingly decided he didn’t want that break is Marcus Rashford. The United forward wanted to go away with the Three Lions as their World Cup qualifying campaign kicks off.
Rightly or wrongly given the current injuries, Rashford’s love for his country can only be admired. He loves pulling on that all-white strip and doing England proud.
However, Rashford probably won’t be involved for England against San Marino later. That’s according to manager Gareth Southgate, who stated that Rashford is ‘doubtful’ for the game, leaving the United star unlikely to play for his country tonight.
“They’re both doubtful, Marcus more doubtful than Bukayo at the moment,” Southgate is quoted as saying per the Manchester Evening News.
“We’re going to assess them, Marcus has been keen to be with us. He wasn’t with us in the autumn so he’s been keen to be part of the group and get with us.”
Although Rashford has linked up with his teammates, at least Southgate isn’t going to risk the Englishman in a game that the Three Lions should win with ease.
Personally, I’d hoped Rashford would be sat at home on his couch, giving his back, shoulder and ankle all the rest it needs for our Premier League and Europa League run-in.
Rashford’s a tough young man, though. The fact that he’s putting off surgery until the summer tells you everything you need to know about his desire and attitude to play.
Hopefully, he’s feeling better when he comes back to Manchester because we’re certainly going to need him for our Europa League quarter-final against Granada.
