Rashford, Fred & Fernandes named in Europa League squad of the season

The Europa League squad of the season has been named by UEFA, with three Manchester United stars featuring in the 23-man list.

The official Europa League Twitter account posted the team yesterday, which, as you’d imagine, is jam-packed with Sevilla and Inter players – both of whom made the final.

However, three of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side made the cut, all of which fully deserve their inclusions…

I’d like to start out by making a case for Sergio Romero, who was absolutely superb for us once again this season. Perhaps the fact Romero didn’t play in the semi-final made space in the 23-man list for Karl-Johan Johnsson, who had an absolute blinder against us for Copenhagen…

There was also a spot in the squad for ex-Red, Romelu Lukaku, who enjoyed an excellent debut season with Inter – despite sticking the ball in his own net in the final…

Anyway, let’s get right into the Europa League squad of the season in full:

First and foremost, we have Bruno Fernandes. It goes without saying, our Portuguese Magnifico was the shining light on our season. Not only did he score our only goal in both the quarter-final and semi-final, he was the one pulling the strings.

Don’t forget Fernandes also played for Sporting Lisbon in the group stages in the Europa League before the year’s turn. He was by far the best player in the competition this season. He can add this honour to his countless Player of the Month awards!

Next up we have Fernandes’ midfield partner, Fred. I actually thought the Brazilian got a raw deal towards the end of the season as he was used sparingly. However, in Europe, the former Shakhtar man was excellent. Precision in his passing, a drive to win the ball back and a keenness to move forward. Against Sevilla, he was superb, while his group-stage performances were equally brilliant.

Marcus Rashford is the final United player involved in the team. I know he looked absolutely shattered in the last couple of games, but before then, he was the focal point of our attack. He best European game came against Partizan Belgrade, in which he’d score a goal and tack on an assist in a 3-0 win.

Congratulations, lads!
