Rashford set for £200k-a-week deal, Lingard pencilled in for talks: report

Manchester United have, understandably, had problems when it comes to keeping their key stars happy. After losing Ander Herrera for free, while David de Gea’s and Marcus Rashford’s contracts begin to wind down…

However, there has been a positive update on the latter. It comes from ESPN, who say that the 21-year-old Rashford is set to sign a new five-year Manchester United contract.

Apparently, he’ll be offered terms that ‘reflect his importance at Old Trafford’. That’ll translate to a deal worth £200,000-a-week – making Rashford one of United’s highest earners.

United had been made aware of interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City, but there is a growing confidence that they have done enough to tie their star #10 down to a new deal.

I know the £200,000-a-week sounds expensive, but in a sense, United have made their own bed. By handing Alexis Sanchez mega-money, the club have set a precedent and they’ll now face the consequences for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully, the deal is done before United jet off for pre-season tour on July 7th so the rumours don’t swirl for another few weeks longer…

In another minor update, ESPN says that another former academy player in Jesse Lingard is ‘pencilled in’ for the next round of contract talks…
