Rasmus Hojlund is set to upgrade his Man United shirt number for the coming season.
Manchester United’s preparations for the new season are now well underway. The Old Trafford side are looking to continue making progress under Erik ten Hag, with the club backing the manager by giving him a new contract.
Last summer, Ten Hag’s big signing was Rasmus Hojlund. At the time, the Dane was little known, arriving from Atalanta in Serie A. It’s fair to say he endured a mixed season at the Theatre of Dreams, though the talent is so obviously there.
Now, with Anthony Martial no longer at the club, an opportunity to be given an iconic shirt number has arisen…
According to The United Stand, Hojlund is now ‘expected’ to be given the number nine jersey at United now that it’s vacant.
Hojlund is now the senior striker at United, so it certainly makes sense for the Dane to be bestowed with this honour, rather than it going straight to Joshua Zirkzee.

To me, this indicates that Hojlund is still the main striker option for Ten Hag. It was always likely to be the case, though this just reaffirms the belief that the former Atalanta man will still be given the lion’s share of the minutes when fit.
I was super impressed with Hojlund last season. You have to remember just how little service he was given at times, while he continued to produce in terms of overall effectiveness and goals output.
You’d like to think that United, on the whole, will play better this coming term. Nobody will benefit more than Hojlund who should expect at least some half decent service.
