RB Leipzig wouldn’t be able to do anything to stop Man United signing Konrad Laimer this summer – if his release clause is met…
At Old Trafford, big changes are being made. Manchester United are shipping out the old all across the board – and bringing in the new. Coaches, higher personnel, manager and players.
Several faces are leaving on free transfers this summer. More will be sold. They’ll have to be replaced in some capacity, hence why United are being linked with a whole host of names.
It seems like due to the Ralf Rangnick connection, the Old Trafford club are being mentioned with signing pretty much every RB Leipzig player at the moment. Last month, we covered a story claiming the Reds were interested in signing Konrad Laimer.
Now, those reports are back in the media. The claim comes from SportBILD (Wednesday print edition), with the translation via Sport Witness. They make a pretty big claim.
Apparently, RB Leipzig would be ‘powerless’ from stopping United signing the 24-year-old Laimer this summer. That’s if they pay the £34m (€40m) release clause within the midfielder’s contract.
Laimer has been in brilliant form for RB Leipzig this term, with the Bundesliga club deeming the midfielder as a ‘decisive’ part of their 3-4-4 system. Hence, they’re trying to tie the Austrian down to a new contract.
However, RB Leipzig would be unable to prevent Laimer’s exit if his exit clause is met – be it by United or someone else…
As things stand, Bayern Munich are also showing an interest in Laimer, with the player ‘exploring’ the enquiry from both United and the Bavarian club.
It goes without saying, the need for a new defensive midfielder at United is huge. Nemanja Matic is leaving this summer, with the Reds already light in that area of the field. Laimer could walk through the entrance door and immediately fill that void – in a relatively affordable deal, too.
Laimer has plenty of experience under his belt and he’d only improve under a manager like Erik ten Hag. You also have to consider that Rangnick will know him well from the time they spent together with the Bundesliga club.
