Real Madrid are ready to part with Raphael Varane this summer, with Los Blancos ready to sell the centre-back to Manchester United.
We’re not going to lie to you, we’ve been here before. Just yesterday in fact, we were covering a claim from Sport, who stated United ‘would not hesitate’ to make their move for Raphael Varane.
Heck, that makes sense, we’re talking about someone who looks like the perfect fit for the Red Devils on paper.
Well, now it seems the English press have picked up on this story. It comes from the Manchester Evening News, who yesterday, went big…
According to the Manchester-based outlet, Real Madrid are ‘prepared to sell’ the top-class 27-year-old to Manchester United this summer.
It’s reported that the centre-half has been a long-term target for the Old Trafford club, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prioritising the signing of a partner for Harry Maguire.
So why are Real Madrid willing to sell?
Apparently, they’re pessimistic about Varane signing a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman’s current contract expires in 2022, meaning Madrid would rather sell him now, instead of losing him on a free in a years time.
The possibility of Varane putting pen to paper with Los Blancos looks pretty slim, with the player believing there’s too great-a-difference between the salary he is being offered in comparison to what his teammates earn.
Furthermore, Madrid have actually placed the club captaincy on the table for Varane, though seemingly, that won’t be enough to convince the centre-half to remain.
Should United make their move?
Absolutely. Although I still have my doubts. Ever since we’ve been covering transfer news on this site, Varane has been a target, though a deal never materialises.
To me, this feels like Varane’s agency using United in order to get more money out of Real Madrid. In the end, I reckon their deal will get done. However, if not, United should be ready to pounce and make their move.
