Real Madrid given deadline in which they have to sign De Gea by

Manchester United managed to hold on to David de Gea by the skin of their teeth last summer, thanks to a dodgy fax machine and some incompetent Real Madrid staff. Many thought that he would then leave for Old Trafford on a free transfer the summer after.

However, the Spaniard put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Old Trafford, and the ball was then back firmly in Manchester United’s court.

Today, the Manchester Evening News say that he has a release clause in his contract, that Real Madrid will only be able to activate until Wednesday.

After that date, the clause becomes invalid and then Manchester United would have to determine what would be an acceptable offer for the 25-year-old.

One thing that you have to say is David de Gea has remained the consummate professional throughout, and that is all credit to him. He has kept working hard, fought for his place and once again has improved this season.

Now he is one of the best in the world, and it looks like he will be here for a while yet.
