Di Marzio: Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be out for 8-9 months due to injury

As we all know, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was substituted in the dying embers of Manchester United’s game against RSC Anderlecht last night. At the time, it looked like a painful injury for the striker and I personally feared the worst…

Now it looks as though our fears could have come true. The usually reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Ibrahimovic has torn both his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, and that will keep him sidelined for around 8-9 months.

For a man of his age, that must be devastating. I genuinely believe he’ll be considering whether to call time on an absolutely glittering career, because by the time he comes back he’ll be nearer 37.

So that confirms his season here at Manchester United is over, which is a true shame. He has found the back of the net 28 times and is by far and away our most important player, and without him, the rest of this season will be a struggle.

I guess we’ll be lucky if we see him play for us ever again, and it’s just gutting that it happened that way because he absolutely deserved a proper send-off. Who knows, I may be totally wrong and United decide to offer him another contract, but I just cannot see it if he’s out for the best part of a year.
