Man United could well be back in for Mason Mount this coming summer.
Earlier this month, Manchester United were linked with a possible move to sign Chelsea attacking midfielder, Mason Mount.
The Englishman, who has eighteen months left on his current deal, is locked in negotiations with Chelsea over new terms.
However, according to The Athletic, those talks have been shelved until the summer.
What’s interesting is that The Athletic state that Chelsea will sell the United target during the next window, if no new terms can be agreed upon.
Obviously, Chelsea aren’t willing to lose Mount on a free transfer, following a pretty successful few years at Stamford Bridge for the Englishman.
Chelsea’s squad looks massively different now when you compare it with the one that began the season. Todd Boehly went mad and spent big bucks, meaning Mount’s place in the side is no longer guaranteed.
The question is, would United move for Mount?
Well, they’re seemingly keen on the Englishman, who’d certainly bring some squad depth to Old Trafford should a deal happen.
Mount is a versatile player who plays well on both sides of the ball. He’d absolutely be an asset to the side that eventually wins his signature, though I’m not sure the Englishman would be happy dipping in and out of the starting line-up – because I struggle to see how he’d start every single game for United.
On a cut-price deal, I can absolutely see United testing the waters and gauging whether Mount would be interested, so expect this rumour to rumble on over the next few months.
