Manchester United seem to be being linked to every single name under the sun at the moment, with Jose Mourinho yet to seal his first official transfer of the summer. One man the club were linked to a couple of weeks ago was AS Roma’s, Radja Nainggolan.
The 29-year-old Belgian is one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the modern game, and has been integral to any success that Roma have had over the last few years.
Now though, the man himself has spoken out about Manchester United’s interest in him directly, and he has refused to say anything on the matter, which I find interesting.
Manchester United’s interest in me? I don’t want to say anything on the matter,” Nainggolan said, as per Calciomercato.
“I don’t want to say if it is true or not. I am not focused on my future at this moment in time, I am on my vacations. I want to relax a bit after a hard fought season”.
The fact that he hasn’t said that his loyalties remain with Roma could well mean that the midfielder is looking at his options, and what a stunning signing Nainggolan would be if the club could pull it off.
This is a man at the height of his powers and he’d be ready to play from day one and come in and make an impact. Manchester United have been crying out for a more defensive-minded partner for both Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, and Nainggolan would be the ideal solution.
At this point in time, it does look as though we won’t be hearing anything concrete until after his holidays which is fair enough. Professional footballers deserve some downtime, too…
