Reported Man United transfer target Saul Niguez set to announce new club this Wednesday

Back on April 19th, we covered a story from Spanish media outlet AS, during which it was claimed that midfielder Saul Niguez was ‘wanted’ at Manchester United.

After all, those stories came on the back of an incredible couple of performances from Saul in the Champions League against Liverpool. His stock continues to rise.

Aged just 25, Saul’s best years are surely ahead of him, while doubts about Atletico Madrid’s financial situation due to COVID-19 has only fuelled belief that the La Liga outfit may have to cash in on their prized asset. Last night, we’ve been given the clearest indication yet that Saul is on his way out.

The reported United transfer target has announced via Twitter he’ll make his big transfer decision in a ‘few days’ posted yesterday, so we should expect to hear from Saul again this coming Wednesday…

At first, my initial thought was that Saul could do an Antoine Griezmann and announce he’s staying put at Atleti. However, use of the word ‘new’ all-but rules that out.

In terms of clubs linked, it does feel like United were in the leading pack. However recently, it feels like the Saul to Old Trafford stories would’ve been far more frequent within the media – unless the Reds have done an incredible job at keeping this one quiet…

My view remains the same; Saul would be an unbelievable addition to this squad if the deal would happen. As a Paul Pogba replacement, the Spaniard would be perfect. Who knows, they could be midfield partners, along with Bruno Fernandes, all being well next season…
