Right-back named as Man United’s ‘main priority’ in January transfer window

Man United are looking to bring in a right-back during the January transfer window.

Manchester United Football Club are heading in the right direction under Erik ten Hag, with the Old Trafford club playing some good football right now.

You’d imagine things will only continue to improve with time. The Dutch manager has only had one transfer window and less than half a year to work with these players.

As the squad starts to evolve, to become more in line with the Ten Hag style of play, you’d hope to see further improvement. With the January transfer window now looming, we’re starting to hear more transfer rumours.

The latest comes from Florian Plettenberg, who believes United’s ‘main priority’ for the January transfer window is to sign a right-back.

Plettenberg adds that Jeremie Frimpong is one of the candidates being looked at. We’ve already covered that claim here.

On top of that, the South American market is ‘very interesting’ for Ten Hag, while a new goalkeeper could also be under consideration.

Check out @Plettigoal‘s tweet on Man United trying to sign a right-back in January:

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka deemed surplus to requirements by the boss, coupled with Diogo Dalot’s contract winding down, a new right-back does feel like the big need.

Even though Dalot has been good this season, he cannot do it all on his own even if he does stick around for longer than his current contract.

Frimpong is someone who better fits this system, though acquiring the player from his current club, Bayer Leverkusen, may be difficult in a mid-season window. You also have to factor in whether there’s still money left in the 2022/23 season transfer budget…
