Man United may well find it tough to sign Jude Bellingham, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Manchester United are a side who are slowly improving under Erik ten Hag, though it’s going to take time for the Red Devils to return to the pinnacle of English football.
The gaffer needs signing to help speed up that process. Six were made in the summer. All have had an impact so far. The manager needs more money to spend next summer, too.
You get the feeling Ten Hag isn’t completely content with his midfield options as things stand. Fred and Scott McTominay aren’t doing the business. Both will probably be replaced.
The name who could come up for sale this summer is Jude Bellingham. United have a long-standing interest in the Englishman.
Acquiring him may be harder than you’d think. one ex-Red in the form of Rio Ferdinand believes the club will find it tough to get this deal done, as there is ‘too much work’ to be done at United. Basically, it’d be a gamble for Bellingham to move to Old Trafford right now.
Check out what Rio had to say on prospects of Man United potentially doing enough to sign Bellingham:
“Put yourself in Jude Bellingham’s shoes now… [Manchester] City are going to be in for him, Real Madrid probably be in for him, they are all going to be, Barca, Bayern will be in for him.” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel, per the MEN Live Blog.
“There’s too much work to be done at United, its whether he thinks ‘you know what I can be the catalyst to pull this club back to where it should be’.
“That’s the only way he goes if he says that in his own mind, ‘I can be that guy’, if he think he can be that guy then Man United’s the club for him, but I don’t see him taking that decision.”
As much as I want to disagree, I can’t. United aren’t a sure-fire thing right now. It’s 50/50 whether this club will return to it’s former glory, particularly with these owners in charge.
Bellingham will want to ensure his next career move is a fruitful one. Would he take the risk to join United? It’s tough to say.
One thing I will state is that Champions League football is an absolute must. United have to finish inside the top four this season or else they have absolutely no chance at bringing Bellingham in.
Sadly, I just don’t see this one happening, particularly if City start showing an interest.
