Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United will miss this key star against Ajax

Manchester United Football Club play the biggest game that I can remember in recent years this evening. Jose Mourinho leads his men into battle against a supremely talented Ajax side, in a game that is going to be a close-knit affair from the first minute right until the last.

Ahead of the big match, our injury issues have been well documented. Manchester United have been without several stars for quite some time, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 35-year-old Swede scored 28 goals before he went down in the Europa League quarter-finals with a problem that would go on to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

He will be there this evening, but as an onlooker. Now, Rio Ferdinand has explained exactly why United will miss their talismanic figure.

“United will miss his goals, but above that, his experience and the effect he would have had on the Ajax youngsters given his superstar status.” Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport, as per the Daily Star.

Being without Ibra is a massive loss. This is a man who has turned into a father of this team, and has scored so many precious goals. There is no denying that the game will be a whole lot tougher without him on the field.

But, in injury comes opportunity. Marcus Rashford has been brilliant recently, and tonight, the young Mancunian has a chance to etch his name into our record books until the end of time. Will he grasp that chance? I have every confidence in his abilities.
