Manchester United were beaten, and beaten well at the hands of Liverpool over the weekend, as Jose Mourinho once again came out as second best.
The game itself was one way traffic throughout, with very little chances created for the Red Devils’ attacking players. What’s frustrating is that this is an excellent squad of players. There are some sublime individuals within that dressing room.
Rio Ferdinand clearly believes that is the case, too. The United legend was speaking about his former employers, and singled out Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard as three players that simply have to stay at Old Trafford.
“The three players have a good future at Manchester United but only if they get the support they need,” Ferdinand told Goal, per the Manchester Evening News.
“They are the future of United and must be handled with good care and treated well. So far things are not working out for them as it should be but I have hope that they will stay there for longer.”
This is a dynamic trio, and one that has the potential to be our front three for the next half-decade at the very least. These guys should be well looked after, these guys should be treated with respect by both the club and fans alike.
My main issue is that, under Mourinho, they won’t be able to play with the shackles off. They’ll always be restricted under this style. It’s unfortunate, but that is true.
Thankfully, both Lingard and Rashford have lengthy contracts at United, but Martial’s deal is expiring soon, and the club may well be forced into selling the Frenchman in the not too distant future if they cannot convince him to commit…
