Manchester United are building for the future under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, that much is obvious.
The Red Devils are heading in a positive direction as it finally feels like they have a plan for the first time in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Amongst the shining lights over the last few years is Marcus Rashford. We owe Louis van Gaal a huge amount for handing him a debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League a few years ago.
Now, though, Rashford is amongst the best players in the country – which has prompted Reds legend Rio Ferdinand to admit that he’d build the team around the United star Rashford if it were his job…
Rashford can be up there with the best 100 per cent, because he’s got mad talent,” Ferdinand told The Beautiful Game podcast, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.
“From a kid, I’ve seen him play, whether it was up front or wide, or drifting about, he’s always had mad talent and Man United have always known.
“It’s whether you can translate that to being in the first-team and he’s shown he can do that. He’s just been unfortunate he’s been in a team that’s been in transition ever since he’s been in the first-team.
“It’s very different to, say, Mbappe coming into a Paris Saint-Germain team that’s going to win it every year, fighting for trophies on all fronts, the confidence levels are there, there’s no finding out period with any of the players there. They’re a consistent, well-oiled machine in their league and that league’s not as hard either, but Mbappe’s major.
“It seems like Ole was getting the consistency in the squad and that was when [Rashford] wasn’t playing, which was the disappointing part. So fingers crossed, if he can get back to normal he can get back to some consistency and they can start trying to get back to the heights of where Man United were at before. And then I think we’ll see more from Marcus, because if I’m Man United I’m building it all around him.”
This young man has only improved year-on-year, with Rashford having by far and away his best statistical season before picking up a serious back injury back in January…
Rashford is a player who has an aura, a desire and a drive to win. The best part about it? He’s a homegrown product who loves this club just as much as everyone single one of us does.
Forget Paul Pogba, Rashford is the lifeblood of this squad. With help aplenty from the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and possibly Jadon Sancho next season, the Englishman is proving why United put so much faith in him from an early age.
I have absolutely no problem with Rashford being the focal point of this club for the next ten years. He definitely deserves it…
