Rio Ferdinand suggests new position for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United Football Club have made some brilliant signings over the last two transfer windows, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spending some pretty big money – though getting every single transfer absolutely spot on.

For me, the best value is Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Nicknamed The Spider, our right-back has been consistently superb all season.

He’s great in the tackle, positionally secure, a willing runner and he’s definitely getting better in an offensive capacity. The best part is, he’s still young and learning his trade. Simply put, we’ve found someone who can be a mainstay in this team for the next decade.

Although he may not stay at right-back. Club legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested a new position for Wan-Bissaka, stating that he’d be brilliant in a back three – playing on the right-hand side.

“He can cover people, unbelievable. He could play the right side of a back three at Man United if they wanted to, I think he’d be brilliant there,” Ferdinand said during an Instagram Q&A, transcribed by the Express on Sunday.

“It depends on the game, If I knew I was going to have to defend a lot and I need someone to lock down the winger I’m bringing AWB on.”

I honestly don’t think it matters where Wan-Bissaka would play. He’d perform at a consistent level in either of these spots, though there are pros and cons to either position.

If he does move to a back three, it’d mean Diogo Dalot would have the freedom to bomb up the field and do what he does best in an offensive capacity. However, United would be losing a body elsewhere.

We all know his strengths at right-back. For me, this is where he should be playing as he can totally lock down one side of the field; just ask Raheem Sterling about that…
