Old Trafford witnessed one of the best goals in footballing history yesterday, when Henrikh Mkhitaryan produced an absolute moment of genius against Sunderland – to send the Black Cats home without any points. The Armenian came on as a second-half substitute, and what an impact he had.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic played in a ball that was just behind the 27-year-old, who pulled off a scorpion kick to beat Jordan Pickford in the Sunderland goal, in what was one of the greatest moments in the sport.
After the game, Robbie Savage was on a radio show, on which a caller stated that he’d rather have Henrikh Mkhitaryan over the supremely talented Manchester City man; Kevin de Bruyne. The former United academy product duly agreed with the member of the public.
“I agree with you.” Robbie Savage is quoted as saying by The Sun, who say that the Welshman said this in response to the caller on Radio 5 Live.
“I watched a lot of Bundesliga and he was brilliant.”
“I would have Mkhitaryan over De Bruyne, yes I would.”
“Both are fantastic players but I’d rather Mkhitaryan.”
At the end of the day, it’s early in Mkhitaryan’s Manchester United career but he looks like an absolutely wonderful footballer. He’s one of those players that excites the fans, and he does get people out of their seats.
The scary thing is that he hasn’t really had a proper run in the side, and if he continues to develop and grow in this manner, we could have one of the best attacking midfielders in the world on our hands.
Slowly but surely, you feel that Jose Mourinho is turning us into pure winners again, and it certainly bodes well for the future.
