Man United could look to make Brighton boss, Roberto de Zerbi, their next manager.
Manchester United now have new powers in charge of their football operations. INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are hoping to return the Red Devils to the top of the tree. Though, that’s easier said than done.
There’s no bigger decision to make than who they want to back as manager. Personally, I just assumed Erik ten Hag would keep the job. After all, he’s an excellent manager who seems to have control over the current dressing room.
Well, Football Insider aren’t convinced that will be the case, with Roberto de Zerbi a real possibility.
According to their information, the 44-year-old is now a ‘very strong contender’ to become the next Man United manager.
On top of that, it’s stated that Ten Hag’s future is ‘under threat’, following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the Old Trafford side.
Brighton manager De Zerbi is viewed as a ‘stand out candidate’ to replace the Dutchman, while his aggressive playing style is better suited to United. He’s also had success with improving and developing young players.
There’s also the Dan Ashworth connection. It was Ashworth who hired De Zerbi when he was at Brighton working as their Director of Football. If you believe reports, he’s likely to be given a job at the Theatre of Dreams in the not too distant future.
I’m still of the opinion that Ten Hag should be given at least one more season at United, though if Ratcliffe isn’t a fan, I understand the need to move on. A good FA Cup run may well save the Dutchman his job, though…
