Robin van Persie and Sir Alex Ferguson have both been nominated for major awards for their efforts in 2013. Van Persie, 30, has been nominated for the most prestigious individual prize in world football – the Ballon D’or. Whereas Sir Alex Ferguson goes up for the Coach of the Year award.
Both will face stiff competition, as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery amongst many others are up for the players award, and treble winning, now retired Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes is up for the managers award.
Sadly there are no English players on the list whatsoever which comes as no real surprise. Wayne Rooney has had an excellent start to the season but he also had a poor second half of last season, hence his exclusion as the award takes the calendar year into consideration.
