Manchester United will be without their permanent captain Wayne Rooney for their fixture against his former club this lunchtime, but it looks like Louis van Gaal’s men have a suitable replacement in the form of Robin van Persie ready to step up to the plate and take on the role for the next three games.
The news comes from the usually reliable Steve Bates of the Sunday People, who is always pretty much spot on when it comes to Manchester United news. We know van Persie is a good captain, who Louis van Gaal has a lot of trust in. He took over the Holland captain role when Louis van Gaal took charge of the Dutch national team as they made a great effort at winning the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
With this looking likely to be true, it probably means that vice-captain Darren Fletcher will not be starting the game against Everton. The rumours are that Antonio Valencia will be starting in his place.
