Robin van Persie is set to be named Manchester United captain when fellow Dutch compatriot Louis van Gaal is named as manager – which is expected to happen today. Robin will undoubtedly be delighted to hear that his international manager is set to take the reigns at Old Trafford.
Robin scored a sublime goal for Holland on Saturday, that earn Holland a 1-1 draw against Antonio Valencia’s Ecuador in an international friendly ahead of the World Cup.
Speaking about Van Persie after the game, Louis van Gaal said:
“He is my captain, he is my top scorer in the 1½ years that he has played under me.” Van Gaal added. “He became all-time top scorer of the Dutch team, he plays superb football and even coming back from a bad injury, he scores a fantastic, unbelievable goal.”
“I was happy with his performance, but he is also a fantastic captain. I think you always make a player captain when you have the same morals and philosophy.”
“Not only about football and tactics and what is happening on the pitch but about life. I think that’s very important and I believe that Van Persie and Van Gaal share the same philosophy.”
I wonder what Wayne Rooney will have to say about the situation, because before Louis van Gaal was rumoured to be Manchester United manager, the 28-year old striker was the clear favourite for the armband.

Although it would be a shame if rooney left due to not getting what he wants you get a fit and firing van persie and play mata behind him, can see that being one hell of a combination
Thats a mouthwatering prospect. Its all about keeping Robin van Persie fit, but I’m pretty sure he’ll feel tonnes better himself now that Moyes isn’t in charge.
Would still take Rooney over RVP, RVP wouldnt have score quite as much if it wasnt for Rooney being in the team, Man Utd can play with out RVP but without Rooney we struggled to have a outlet
