Robin van Persie has been offered a coaching role at Man United under Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United’s misery was compounded this weekend, as they were well-beaten by relegation fodder Everton on Saturday.
Ralf Rangnick’s Reds showed no fight, desire or spirit at Goodson Park and more than deserved to lose. Sadly, that just sums up what has probably been our worst season in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
The links suggesting Erik ten Hag will take charge are growing stronger. The Dutchman looks a cert to be in the dugout next season. With the appointment of the 52-year-old comes new ideas, new formations and a new back room staff.
Well, according to Rob Draper, talks between Ten Hag and United are ongoing. On top of that, one ex-Man United star in the form of Robin van Persie has been ‘offered a coaching role’ to return to the Reds.
I loved Van Persie as a player and I have no qualms with Ten Hag trying to surround himself with players who have worked at United in the past and know what the environment is like.
However, is Van Persie going to be the elite level coach that we need? I’m not so sure.
It’s going to take a miracle for Ten Hag to turn this around in a rapid time, whoever is appointed as coaches. It’s up to us fans to remain patient and let him lay the foundations for a squad that can compete for many years.
Van Persie has worked with some of these players, he knows what it takes to win in the Premier League – and if the squad buy into his mantra, then it could be an astute piece of business but it is a risk.
