Robin van Persie says one shot on target is ‘not good enough’

Last night, Manchester United earned their first away win since March, as the Red Devils got the better of Partizan Belgrade.

The game itself was (unfortunately), more of the same though. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side looked to have no identity or solid plan. The 1-0 win somewhat papered over the cracks though, at this point, any victory needs to be viewed as a positive.

Anyway, club icon Robin van Persie did slam United for one shocking stat in the game vs Partizan Belgrade. The fact that his former club had just one shot on target, with that coming from the penalty spot, just isn’t anywhere near good enough…

“Yeah, that’s not good enough to be really honest to have one shot on target, which is the penalty,” Van Persie said live on BT Sport air, per the Daily Express.

Although there were several homegrown players on the field and many changes made, the lack of chance creation is simply alarming.

When sides allow United to have the lions share of the ball, this team just doesn’t have what it takes to carve open tight-knit defences. You look at the games where teams have attacked – Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester City. Coincidentally, they’ve been by far and away our best displays of the season.

Sure, Paul Pogba missing for a prolonged period doesn’t help, but Solskjaer needs to seriously look at adding a creative spark into the squad as soon as possible.
