Manchester United Football Club have always excelled when it comes to developing young talents and turning them into well-rounded professionals.
It is a mantra that has served the Red Devils brilliantly, so why change that habit? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given opportunities aplenty to the next generation.
Brandon Williams, Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe have all regularly featured – as has Mason Greenwood.
The young Englishman is having an excellent breakthrough season at the Theatre of Dreams, with praise rightly coming from all quarters. Now, Lukaku has further fuelled the Greenwood fire, naming the starlet as United’s best young player during a Twitter Q&A…
We all know how incredibly gifted Greenwood is. Heck, I’m still not sure which foot is his strongest!
It’s high praise coming from Lukaku and for me, Greenwood reminds me of a young Robin van Persie. If he can keep improving at this rapid pace, make no mistake about it, he’ll be a regular starter and a global phenomenon within a couple of years.
He’s quicker than you think, supremely composed, a cold as ice finisher from practically anywhere in the penalty box (and outside it, too). He also has that arrogance, swagger, cockiness which is required to make it at the highest level.
It always means more coming from your fellow professionals, particularly someone who has had an excellent goal-scoring record throughout his career like Romelu Lukaku.
