Romelu Lukaku set to be benched, young superstar to get chance as striker: report

Just when one team selection problem is fixed at Manchester United, another seems to pop up.

Romelu Lukaku is struggling. Badly. The 25-year-old Belgium can’t find any kind of form whatsoever, and now, it looks as though he’s set for a spell on the bench. That’s if the latest report from The Sun is to be believed.

Furthermore, Neil Custis’ exclusive says that Marcus Rashford will get his chance to prove his worth as the starting striker; and what an opportunity it is for the brilliantly talented young man.

First of all, if this news turns out to be true, then Jose Mourinho deserves immense credit for making the big call. Dropping someone who cost £75million isn’t easy, but you have to say that his form justifies the exclusion.

As for Rashford, well, we all know he’s a striker by trade. For England, he looks absolutely sublime playing through the middle. That pace, finishing ability, directness and sheer work ethic could certainly work.

At this point, why not give this a try? Lukaku needs some time off. Perhaps him being on the bench will get him even more motivated to work harder and put in better performances. Let’s be honest, Rashford can’t do any worse so it’s certainly worth the risk.
