After both missed the FA Cup tie against Chelsea on Monday, both Rafael and Wayne Rooney are back in training and in contention to play in the Manchester derby on Monday night. However, both Jonny Evans and Nemanja Vidic aren’t due to start training until tomorrow or Saturday meaning both are doubts for the game.
Rooney was sorely missed against Chelsea and his drive and determination could’ve meant a different outcome, and although Antonio Valencia did a superb job at right-back, Rafael’s return is a great boost going into the game.
This is the first time the sides have met at Old Trafford since that 6-1 game over 18 months ago, and United will certainly want to overcome their City rivals in this one to all but seal the title.
“Wayne and Rafa have started training this morning,” said Sir Alex. “Which is good news.” The boss added.
“Hopefully, they will be fine by Monday. Jonny Evans and Nemanja Vidic are not there yet but, hopefully, they will start training maybe tomorrow or Saturday morning. We have a little bit of time on our hands to get most of the troops ready for the game.”
