RvP Wants £220,000 A Week?

According to this morning’s Sunday Express, Arsenal forward Robin van Persie is demanding a salary of £220,000 a week if he were to join Manchester United, the same as our star striker, Wayne Rooney. Along with other news sources, they also report that Old Trafford is the Dutchman’s favoured destination.

The three clubs widely reported to be in the running for the 28-year old, include Juventus, ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City and obviously, ourselves. Van Persie has just one major trophy to his name (FA Cup) which he won way back in 2005. He claims this is the main reason for a move away from the Emirates, although I suspect the money may be quite nice, too.

It’s interesting, yet encouraging that his preferred move would be one to the red side of Manchester, the question that still needs to be answered, though, is whether we are willing to meet Arsenal’s valuation of the striker. We are looking to offer somewhere around the £20million mark, whereas the Gunners want more for their hit man.

As i’ve already stated, Van Persie isn’t what we need. In my eyes, the area we need to strengthen most is the left-back position, as if Evra gets injured, we simply have no experienced cover to step in. I still think that the Dutchman will end up at City though, we will just have to wait.
