Scott McTominay will not be involved as Man United take on Aston Villa in Perth.
Manchester United’s final game of the Australian leg of pre-season tour is upon us, with Erik ten Hag locking horns against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.
This will be a good gauge to see how United are developing under Ten Hag’s guidance, with Villa naming a strong team and providing a stern test.
Well, one man who won’t feature in that match is Scott McTominay. When the club announced the starting line-up, they stated that the Scotland international is ‘not yet ready to play’ as he misses out on the squad for the game vs Villa altogether.
Not too long after, live on MUTV, they confirmed the United star is carrying a ‘little niggle’, though McTominay did train in the stadium, indicating the problem is only minor.
Perth has experienced some heavy rain over the last 24 hours and the pitch is not in great condition at all. Risking McTominay here would be a mistake that’s not worth making, particularly as he’s featured in the first three games already.
It also presents a chance for Donny van de Beek to start with the first team, giving us all a chance to see how the Dutchman is performing under Ten Hag. Hopefully, the former Ajax man can take this chance with both hands. At the very least, he should be able to build some confidence.
For McTominay, he now has a full week to rest up. United play two more friendlies after this one, both take place next weekend. No doubt the Scotland international will feature in one of those.
