Scott McTominay ‘allowed’ to leave Man United this summer

Scott McTominay will be free to leave Man United this summer if the right offer comes in.

Manchester United need to go on another summer spending spree, proving to Erik ten Hag that they’re going to back their man.

The Dutchman spent money wisely last term. We’ll have to assume we’re in for another good summer this time around. With club ownership still up in the air, United’s budget will have to be supplemented by player sales.

Several lads have seen a drastic reduction in minutes over the last nine months, though that doesn’t mean they’re bad players.

One man who falls into that bracket is Scott McTominay. Now, in an article by the Daily Mail, we’ve been given an update on Newcastle United interest in the Scotland international.

Apparently, Eddie Howe is interested in acquiring the midfielder from United, as he looks to overhaul their central area.

It’s stated that the 26-year-old United player ‘will be allowed’ to leave this summer, however, the Reds may have to lower their asking price, which currently stands at a fee in excess of £30m.

Honestly, in this day and age, I don’t think that’s too unreasonable. McTominay has been an excellent servant for this club over the years, while he’s always been consistent.

He fits the homegrown quota which often adds a bit extra to the transfer fee, while the man born in Lancaster would be moving to a Champions League rival. All those things bump up the price little by little.

Player sales is absolutely an area in which United as a club need to improve. We’ve been terrible at it for years and this summer presents a good opportunity to fix that issue. McTominay, Harry Maguire, Dean Henderson, Anthony Elanga and a few others should all fetch some decent fees.
