Even in victory, things just don’t seem to be going Manchester United’s way at the moment. The Red Devils would demolish Partizan Belgrade 3-0, though typically the game would be marred by injury.
Late on, both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay picked up knocks. According to The Independent, the former is expected to be fit to play on Sunday.
However, United have been hit with an injury concern as key star McTominay is a doubt to take on Brighton this weekend.
The midfielder limped out of the match after a late tackle from a Partizan player, immediately signalling that he had a problem – having to be substituted off the field of play.
”Scott is more of a concern, so let’s see how he recovers in the next few days.
“He said he was going to be okay out on the pitch and he said ‘I’ll be fine’.
“He’s tough, but he had to come off. But I hope he’ll recover for Sunday, but I don’t know.
“Inside of his ankle. I think he went over on his ankle.”
McTominay has probably been United’s standout performer this term. The 22-year-old has come on leaps and bounds under Solskjaer, having displaced Nemanja Matic from the team due to some brilliant displays – and rightly so.
Losing him for any prolonged period of time would be a major blow for the Baby Faced Assassin, and with only just over 48 hours until Brighton visit Old Trafford, I’d personally be surprised if he’s risked.
The good news is that we head into an international break after this game so McTominay will have a full fortnight to recover from the issue before a tricky away game against Sheffield United.
As Solskjaer says, McTominay is a tough young man so he’ll put his body on the line if needs be. Sometimes, though, it’s just not worth the risk…
