Scott McTominay has been pictured back out on the training field.
Manchester United’s midfield looked pretty poor against Southampton a fortnight ago, with the loss of Scott McTominay making a real impact.
The Red Devil’s academy product has become an unsung hero of this current Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regime, growing and improving as a player year-on-year.
As the old saying goes, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. I’d argue that despite all the talent in midfield, it’s someone like a McTominay who has the most important role to play.
Without him, the game just looks like a struggle for the rest of the lads who just don’t do the dirty work as well as he does.
It’s fair to say I’m a pretty happy fan this morning, though, with United given an injury lift as the key 24-year-old was back in training ahead of the Newcastle game this weekend.

McTominay only underwent surgery less than a fortnight ago and at the time, United were keen to assure us it was only a minor operation. The fact that he’s already back in training definitely backs up that point.
In regards to his availability for this weekend, we’re still not sure. It’s definitely a positive that he’s working hard on the grass already, but the intensity of his individual session is not yet known.
I’ve no doubt we’ll hear more from Solskjaer during his pre-match press conference in regards to the severity of the issue. Hopefully, it’s good news as we hope McTominay is fit enough to partake in a massive Premier League fixture.
In terms of alternatives, the only other option is the less-mobile Nemanja Matic, who didn’t cover himself in glory against Southampton in McTominay’s absence.
