Scott McTominay could be one of Ralf Rangnick’s go-to players, a pundit has claimed…
Manchester United now have a new manager in place, though it’s still unclear when Ralf Rangnick will take charge of his first game.
Ahead of time, we’re all trying to work out what players will thrive under the German, while also looking at those who may well struggle…
In the two games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking, I’m guessing that Rangnick will be pleased with what he’s seen. Credit has to go to Michael Carrick for that.
Ex-Spurs and England number one, Paul Robinson, has had his say on the situation. He’s identified 24-year-old United star Scott McTominay as someone who could turn into a ‘key player’ for Rangnick.
Check out what Robinson had to say in full here:
“United set up very defensively on Sunday.” Robinson said to Football Insider.
“I thought it was McTominay’s best game in a United shirt though. He covered a lot of ground. He protected his back four exceptionally well.
“There was times in the last 20 minutes when United were playing six at the back. They offered no real attacking threat other than occasionally on the counter attack.
“McTominay played extremely well though, it has to be said.
“Rangnick has developed teams and improved players and perhaps McTominay could benefit from that. He could be a key player for Rangnick between now and the end of the season.”
McTominay was excellent against Chelsea on Sunday, though I still don’t agree with Sky Sports giving him the Man of the Match award. I believe that should have gone to Fred…
That said, we’ve always been huge fans of McTominay. He’s one of the very few players within that side who absolutely loves putting a shift in and doesn’t give up for 90 minutes. Having that engine and stamina will only serve him well in a Rangnick team who love to press high.
Year by year, McTominay has expanded his game, too. He started as a workhorse with very little technical ability. Now, he’s an excellent passer of the football who also chips in with some big goals.
He’s also of the age that Rangnick loves to work with. The German prefers developing younger players rather than working with experienced professionals – purely so he can mould the footballer into someone that fits his style perfectly.
McTominay will definitely improve as soon as Rangnick takes charge, there’s no doubt about that in my mind.
