Scott McTominay will be out of action for the next fortnight or so, with a second source confirming the severity of his injury.

Manchester United have been hit with injury blow after injury blow this season. It looks like there’s no intention of it letting up until the end of the term.

Week-in-week-out, it feels like as we get one player back, another couple pick up a problem. Among the most recent issues is Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international wasn’t included in the match-day squad for the Liverpool game, which initially raised a few eyebrows. Not too long after, a United inside source suggested that McTominay will be missing for a few weeks.

Now, the Daily Mail have backed that up, confirming the injury blow. McTominay has suffered a hyperextension of the knee, meaning he will be out for roughly two to three weeks.

He is now a ‘major doubt’ for the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry at Wembley Stadium.

McTominay, who has scored some crucial goals for the Reds this season, will now miss some important fixtures. Although unlikely to start in these matches, his impact off the substitutes bench has been unmatched this term. For that, he deserves credit

All this does is continue to thin out the squad. I understand that Mason Mount is now building up his fitness after his own injury issues, but it’s never nice seeing players sidelined as it must be so frustrating.

The fact of the matter is that United are now down one of their best sources for goals, whether we like McTominay as a player or not. I personally think this is gearing up towards a summer in which the Lancaster-born-midfielder does leave the club, though, after this term, there’s a genuine argument for those who want to keep him.

Get well soon, Scott.
