Scott McTominay leaves Old Trafford on crutches after suspected knee ligament injury

Manchester United Football Club returned to winning ways yesterday, with the Red Devils beating Newcastle United 4-1.

After a sluggish start, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men clicked into gear and earned a hard-fought, but deserved victory. However, the three points were marred by injury to a key star.

As you can see from the photo below, 23-year-old United star Scott McTominay left the stadium on crutches. The midfielder was subbed off at half-time with an injury, and this is obviously never a welcome sight…

After the game, while speaking to the BBC, Solskjaer feared the worst, adding that McTominay has probably suffered knee ligament damage.

“He’s done his knee ligaments probably,” said Solskjaer to the BBC. “I don’t know how bad.”

“The boy has got the biggest heart and we’ve seen him heal quickly before but I am not sure if he is going to be ready for Saturday,”

If this is true then McTominay’s season is probably over, which only highlights United’s need to go out and get a new defensive-midfielder during the January transfer window.

It also probably eliminates the possibility of Nemanja Matic going anywhere in January. Perhaps this is the opening that the Serb needs to prove that he still has something to offer the 20-time Premier League champions – though I have my doubts.

I guess right now all we can do is hope that McTominay’s injury isn’t as serious as first feared. The pictures obviously don’t look great, and there’s no chance we’ll see him this weekend against Burnley.

He’s a tough young man who’ll only come back from this stronger. For now, we send our best wishes to Scott McTominay.
