Scott McTominay has decided to pledge his international future to Scotland, according to the BBC.
The midfielder, 21, met Scotland gaffer Alex McLeish at Carrington on Thursday, and it was understood that McTominay was due to meet England’s Gareth Southgate on Friday, but that meeting didn’t take place.
United’s new terrace hero has made fifteen appearances for the Red Devils this season, as his stock in the footballing world has grown. Now, it looks as though he has chosen to play his international football north of the border; as he qualifies to play for Scotland due to his father.
Situations like these are always difficult. I guess the logical thing to do is go with your gut, and if his heart is telling him to play for Scotland then so be it.
It’s not about taking part in major championships, it’s about wearing the badge with pride. Sure, personally I would have found it hard to reject England for that reason, but every man is different and we’ve no idea what’s going on in McTominay’s head.
I just hope that his faith is immediately repaid and McLeish gives him the chance to show off his abilities as soon as possible.
