This season, we’ve seen a real breakthrough from young midfielder Scott McTominay. He’s forced his way into the Manchester United squad, with Jose Mourinho putting real faith in the 21-year-old.
At this point in time, he’s still a diamond in the rough, but with limited options in the midfield, it’s nice to see Mourinho giving youth an opportunity to prove his worth.
Now, in an interview, McTominay was asked about who he feels could follow in his footsteps from the Manchester United academy. The lad from Lancaster has named two familiar players, both have a huge future in the footballing world.
‘There’s a number of different boys in the younger ages groups,’ McTominay told HCL Technologies, per The Metro.
‘But I feel like Angel and Chongy have got great potential and hopefully, one day will be in the first-team and training with us regularly and getting as much game-time as they possibly can.”
We’ve seen Angel Gomes make a couple of cameo appearances from off the bench under Mourinho, and the young man looks like an absolutely fantastic footballer with the world at his feet. He seems tailor-made to play for the Red Devils, and I cannot wait for his breakthrough into the starting XI.
As for Tahith Chong, he’s been making a real name for himself with the youth side following his return from injury. He’s another immensely gifted individual who can play in numerous positions. At just eighteen he has growing aplenty to do.
