Manchester United are already looking thin on the ground in midfield, with the failure to replace both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini still playing on the mind. That middle of the park problem could have just become even worse, with McTominay out for eight weeks with a suspected ligament injury.
Initially, we were led to believe that McTominay would be sidelined for three or four weeks, courtesy of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself.
However, the Daily Mail has confirmed the blow for United, as the club fear the 23-year-old is now out for eight weeks with the aforementioned ligament injury.
This pretty much rules McTominay out of action until March, meaning the ever-improving Scot is going to miss some huge games over the next couple of months; starting with Arsenal away tomorrow night.
It’s a massive shame because McTominay has arguably been United’s Player of the Season so far, putting in some colossal performances from midfield and always stepping up when we need him the most.
Now, Solskjaer has a decision to make. Does he sign someone in January as a quick-fix, or does the Baby Faced Assassin remain patient and stick with what he has?
One thing is for sure, this likely means Nemanja Matic isn’t going anywhere during the January transfer window as he’ll now have a huge role to play.
The Daily Mail also offered us another injury concern, as Paul Pogba has complained of a reaction to his foot injury – which makes him a doubt for United’s trip to Arsenal. It’s not going well, huh…?
