Just a couple of days ago, we covered a story from Goal MX in which Manchester United were linked with a move to sign Mexican striker Raul Jimenez.
The initial reaction was one of positivity. After all, who wouldn’t want to add a top-quality striker at the peak of his powers? However, the Manchester Evening News have seemingly ended the fun…
In an article from yesterday, they state that senior Man United sources have derided reported Reds interest in the 28-year-old forward – which completely pours cold water on those stories.
From my experience, the MEN are usually more accurate than not with this stuff and to me this seems as if United were never interested in Jimenez – rather it was media hype once again.
That’s not to say he isn’t a fantastic player, obviously, he is. It’s just that the forward seemingly isn’t the right fit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at this point in time.
One thing that we do know is United desperately need another forward. After letting both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku depart in the summer, the Reds are at least one or two men light in a key area of the field. Whether or not the 20-time Premier League champions can find the sufficient level of replacement in the mid-season window remains to be seen…
